POPLAR (POPULAS)

A vigorous growing large leaf plant noted for its straight tall growth. Tolerates most soil types but likes deep planting and well drained soil. Does not like exposure high winds. Good for timber, logs and wood chips.

All our poplar stool beds are registered with the Forestry Comission's national Register. Certificates are supplied with all poplar sales. We have sixteen registered varieties.

Available as 25cm un-rooted cuttings or un-rooted sets in lengths of 1.2m, 1.5m or 2m.


Material is harvested during November to February. Cuttings are prepared,colour coded for easy identification and aid to planting and vacuum sealed in bags.

All orders can be kept at no extra charge in cold storage until required for planting in the spring. Best planted February to March into well cultivated land that is free from weed. Freshly rotavated soil is an advantage.

Plant cuttings to a depth of 20cm, coloured side up
Plant sets to a depth of 30 - 40cm
Spiral guards may be necessary
Essential to keep weed free for the first growing season
