Harvesting is done during the winter months, planting is recommended between February and April. Cuttings of 25cm are prepared, colour coded for easy identification and aids in planting, then stored in vacuum sealed bags in cold storage until required for planting.
PLANTING FOR BIOMASS
Site area to be freshly ploughed or dug over. Then rotavated to break down the soil. small scale planting can be done through black polythene which also helps supress the weeds.
Spacings can vary, if using tractors and machines allow for wheel width. Plant 0.5 metres between the cuttings and 0.75m and 1.5m between the rows.
After soaking the cuttings over night in water plant to a depth of 20cm, coloured end upwards.

Good weed control is essential and no fertilizers are necessary. After the first year of growth stems can be cut back to encourage mutiple shoots.
